Crochet – Complete Beginners

Crochet has come a long way since the granny square acrylic waistcoats and coasters of the 70s. Now it’s used for trims, edgings, shawls and garments with textural interest, gorgeous lace work and fabulous drape. Best of all? It’s quick!

We will be covering:

  • Tools and equipment
  • Basic Stitches – Slip Knots, Slip Stitch, Single Crochet, Double Crochet,
  • Chart Symbols
  • Working in the round
  • Basic increases
  • Granny Square construction

We will practice several techniques with real projects – culminating in starting your own crochet lace shawl from a choice of patterns.

Following this workshop you’ll be able to work simple crochet patterns (using text and charts) for accessories, garments and shawls.

What you Need:

  • Enthusiasm
  • All materials and detailed hand-outs will be provided.
  • If you already have crochet hooks feel free to bring them along!

Suitable for complete beginners and ‘lapsed’ crocheters.

  1. I would LOVE to do a beginner’s course, I am lefthanded and have tried to teach myself without success! There are so many tempting things to make with crochet if only I can get started…

    Best wishes

    • there are lots of classes around, and if not there are several left hand crochet tutorials on YouTube. I hope you have fun learning!
