however in a publication dated 1890 it is referred to as &#8216;Old Fashioned Hairpin Lace&#8217; so it was regarded as having a history even then!\u00a0 Today it is experiencing something of a comeback as designers such as Jennifer Hansen of StitchDiva incorporate it into their designs, creating beautiful open lace work and very wearable garments.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Also called Staple or Fork Work, Hairpin lace was originally worked in very fine yarns on a lady&#8217;s literal hairpin.\u00a0 The technique produces long strips of crochet which can be used to form edgings or joined together in a variety of ways to produce different types and textures of fabric.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Today&#8217;s modern hairpin looms\u00a0give you multiple options for sizing your lace, and the resulting strips can be combined with crochet and knitting techniques to give a variety of beautiful finishes from afghans to collar trim in ribbon yarn!<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This half day workshop will give you a solid grounding in the basics of Hairpin Lace in a fun and informal environment.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">We\u2019ll be covering..<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">Getting started &#8211; what is this strange tool and what do I do with it?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">The \u00a0Basic Stitch<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">Methods of Joining<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">Working Hairpin with Crochet<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">Working Hairpin with Knitting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We will be working on a variety of beautiful Hairpin lace techniques during the session, which you will be able to take away to show off your new skills.<\/p>\n<p>We will also look at some of the variety you can gain from this lovely technique.<\/p>\n<p>You will need:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">to be comfortable in the basics of crochet &#8211; holding the hook &amp; yarn, chain, Single Crochet, Double Crochet (American terminology)<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">a crochet hook of type and size of your choosing (we recommend a 4 &#8211; 5mm, but don&#8217;t worry if you don&#8217;t have one &#8211;
